Your Mortgage Brokerage Career Path
Step 1. Education
Your first step on your Mortgage Brokerage Career Path is getting the right education. The IMBA Mortgage Agent Course, which was developed by practicing Mortgage Brokers and written in plain English, focuses on real day-to-day experiences. All instructors are certified by IMBA. Course content is designed to explain the reason behind the theory so principles can be applied in the real world. Instruction includes case studies.
Step 2. Practicing Mortgage Agent
As a practicing Agent, you will be licensed as an Authorized Agent of a Mortgage Brokerage, and you will hone your skills in the mortgage brokerage industry. You will enhance your knowledge base by attending seminars and courses to earn Professional Development Credits (PD Credits).
Step 3. Apply for CPMA Designation
After working for two years as a Mortgage Agent and having accumulated a minimum of 20 PD Credits you may apply to receive your CPMA designation.
Step 4. Maintaining Your CPMA Designation
CPMA certifications are renewable every two years and you will become re-certified by accumulating 20 PD Credits during those two years.
Step 5. Qualifying to Become a Mortgage Broker
You will have successfully completed an approved education program; you will have passed an approved qualifying exam for Mortgage Brokers; and you will have been licensed as a Mortgage Agent for at least 24 of the 36 months before you apply for your Mortgage Broker’s licence.
Step 6. Practising Mortgage Broker
As a practicing Broker you will continue to hone your skills in the mortgage brokerage industry, perhaps start your own Brokerage, and you will also continue your professional development by attending advanced-knowledge seminars and courses to earn additional PD Credits.
Step 7. Apply for CPMB Designation
After working for five years as a Mortgage Broker and having accumulated a minimum of 125 PD Credits you may apply to receive your CPMB designation.
Step 8. Maintaining Your CPMB Designation
CPMB certifications are renewable every two years and you will become re-certified by accumulating 20 PD Credits during those two years.
